You Can Be Everything God Wants You to Be

By Max Lucado

You Can Be Everything God Wants You to Be is a condensed version of his book the Cure for the Common Life. Both of which are excellent reads with an amazing message. The beauty of You Can Be Everything God Wants You to Be is that it is short and to the point while packing a powerful message in easy to read hardcover book. This is a perfect gift for a new grad or a person struggling through a tough time. Max Lucado continues to amaze me with his writing, it is a sermon in a book, complete with humor and personal touches that make it easy to read and apply to everyday life. I like that he doesn’t come across as perfect, he doesn’t “preach” in the sense that he tells a message, but in a loving and supportive way while bringing his own experiences to his writing. This little book is really a must-have for anyone’s bookshelf. I can see myself coming back to it on a day where I am feeling frustrated and alone, it has a backbone and as always Max is able to support his faith that God has the big plan and that we need to just be patient and listen and that the Lord will lead the way and that He ultimately wants the best for us. I am fortunate to have read this book and would recommend it to just about anyone.

Book Description:

God made only one version of you. He custom designed you for a one-of-a-kind assignment.

You are heaven’s Halley’s comet; we have one chance to see you shine. You offer a gift to the world that no one else brings. So find it and bring it! And when you do, both you and God will smile.

Yes, you can be everything God wants you to be.

Skeeter book cover

Based on the series by Max Lucado Hermie & Friends, this DVD stars Skeeter and his “perfect” brother Sir Sinclair M. Skeeto and their adventures in the garden and using each other’s gifts to find “hidden treasure”. Throughout the story kids are reminded that God’s love for us is the greatest gift of all and parents unconditional love for their children. It also addresses sibling rivalry in a way that kids can really relate to. Sibling rivalry is a part of most lives, this cute DVD shows kids how everyone is unique and different and has their own special gifts. In the eyes of God, everyone is special. The Bible verse Psalm 139:13-14 talks about each of us being designed especially by God, this DVD nicely captures the verse in a way that children will understand all that God has in store for each one of us, and how encouraging and loving one another is a much better way to live than tearing each other down.

The DVD’s in the Hermie & Friends series are a good fit for the 3 – 8 year old age range. The pacing is slow enough for little ones to follow the story yet have enough interesting parts for older children to watch along as well. And as one might expect, this is definitely family-friendly with no violence or questionable language at any time. Overall, Skeeter and the Mystery of the Lost Mosquito Treasure is a nice addition to the Hermie &Friends series and enjoyable for the kids.

Book Review: Fearless by Max Lucado

Fearless How do we deal with fear? Fear of the unknown, fear of what’s next, fear of impending doom & gloom as we hear about in the media. How in the world to we prepare ourselves to outwit and outlast our daily bouts of fear? One word- FAITH. Max Lucado takes on fear and its place in our lives, and most importantly shows us how we can take that fear and free ourselves from it.

As a fan of Max Lucados vast selection of books that always seem to hit the mark, his new book “Fearless” comes at a time when most people are more fearful than at any time in recent history. With humor and an easy to read writing style Max makes it simple- just keep the faith and let go. The lesson of the book is that in order to combat and overcome fear you have to let it go- give it to the loving Lord and He will take care of you. Easier said than done, but with each chapter discussing the things we most fear and bringing it to a level that just about anyone can not only understand, but also incorporate into their daily life Max Lucado gives us all something that we need- not fear but hope and faith.

Each chapter begins with a Bible verse- my favorite being this: I am leaving you with a gift- peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. – John 14:27 NLT

Reading this book is like taking a deep breath and starting over- letting it go and starting fresh with the knowledge that God is in charge and that a little bit of faith goes a long way.
