That clear September day- it’s been documented tens of thousands of times in so many ways, yet that day still resonates, still grips me, still brings goose bumps and tears. The anniversary of September 11, 2001  comes every year with new stories, this year a very compelling and articulate piece was written by another member of the Matador team that is being posted on the site www.matadornetwork.com. Reading the article and looking at the photos, even years later invokes the same response as that very day “how can this be happening?”. It’s like that day is being relived again, I still get goose bumps, I still get teary, and I still get scared…even after all these years. I can picture that morning and those moments watching it unfold on TV like it was yesterday, my oldest son was only 6 months old, the same age that my youngest and baby is now. So much has happened in our lives, yet that day still stays clear as a bell.

Enjoy the article, it is very well written-

Book Review: Fearless by Max Lucado

Fearless How do we deal with fear? Fear of the unknown, fear of what’s next, fear of impending doom & gloom as we hear about in the media. How in the world to we prepare ourselves to outwit and outlast our daily bouts of fear? One word- FAITH. Max Lucado takes on fear and its place in our lives, and most importantly shows us how we can take that fear and free ourselves from it.

As a fan of Max Lucados vast selection of books that always seem to hit the mark, his new book “Fearless” comes at a time when most people are more fearful than at any time in recent history. With humor and an easy to read writing style Max makes it simple- just keep the faith and let go. The lesson of the book is that in order to combat and overcome fear you have to let it go- give it to the loving Lord and He will take care of you. Easier said than done, but with each chapter discussing the things we most fear and bringing it to a level that just about anyone can not only understand, but also incorporate into their daily life Max Lucado gives us all something that we need- not fear but hope and faith.

Each chapter begins with a Bible verse- my favorite being this: I am leaving you with a gift- peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. – John 14:27 NLT

Reading this book is like taking a deep breath and starting over- letting it go and starting fresh with the knowledge that God is in charge and that a little bit of faith goes a long way.

New Beginnings

It seems apropos that I begin the adventure of having my own blog with a book review. I am an avid reader and love nothing more than to snuggle up with a good book, or  read a book to my kids.

With September comes new beginnings- school starts, the warm summer days turn to crisp cool shorter days and it seems as though with all these new beginnings and changes come a sense of excitement, and also fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of change, fear of what the media is telling us (or not telling us), the list goes on and on. In his new book “Fearless” Max Lucado takes on fear and shows us how we can all live our tumultuous lives free of the burden of fear. Here goes the review- enjoy!
